Understanding the Three Levels of Trust
Trust impacts our ability to influence others. Understand the levels of trust and learn how to build more trust with clients and prospects.
We know the goal of the empathy based listening communication program is to build the highest level of trust. Well, what are the levels of trust? Level one trust basically says if somebody's good at what they do, and they're going to do what they say they're going to do. And you think, "Well, that should be everything." No, that simply says you're competent. You know how to do your job. I can trust that your skill set. That level two says, "We're good at what we do. We're going to do what we say we're going to do, but I'm going to look to tailor it towards you. What does this look like?" Typically, we ask the person a few questions. We might have them fill out some forms about their life. See, we want to put them into what we call an avatar, build a program so it's tailored. And they say, "Wow, that's a higher level of trust." You understand what I'm doing.
But the highest level of trust is that level three that says, "You know what? I'm good at what I do and I want to get a little bit of information from you, but the most important things I need to hear from you. I'm going to discover what it means to be you." Why? Because it builds that culture that says you've given me your resources, now it's my job to go forward, but we're going to do this together. And you know where we're going to do it? On your stage. I need you to understand there are three levels of trust, but the difference between level two and level three is so much more significant than even the distance between level two and level one. It is the highest level of trust.
